Signs that symptoms of anxiety may be affecting your life
• Worry that is hard to control or turn off
• Restlessness, muscle tension or feeling on edge
• Trouble sleeping or concentrating
• Panic attacks, a racing heart or shortness of breath
• Avoiding people, places or tasks because of fear
Did you know? Anxiety often shows up in the body first, as headaches, stomach upset, a racing heart or chest tightness. Caffeine, thyroid problems and some medications can mimic or worsen it, which is why a careful evaluation matters.
What our anxiety evaluation includes
Your first visit is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation of about 90 minutes, in person in Longwood or Clermont or by secure video. We review your symptoms, health history, sleep, substance use and current stressors, and screen for conditions that often occur with anxiety, such as depression, ADHD and OCD. You leave with a clear explanation and a treatment plan.
Did you know? Many people having their first panic attack go to the ER, convinced it is a heart attack. When heart tests come back normal but the fear of the next attack remains, panic disorder is a common and very treatable cause.
Anxiety treatment options
Treatment is individualized and may include education and options such as supplements and or prescriptions medications. Our follow-up visits (usually 20 to 30 minutes) are to monitor for progress, adjust your plan when needed, and make referrals for talk therapy. Gene Sight genetic testing is available when it may help guide medication choices.
Did you know? Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the best-studied treatments for anxiety, and its benefits often last after therapy ends. Many people do best with a combination of therapy and medication, and avoiding what you fear tends to make anxiety grow over time.
