What our depression evaluation includes

Your first visit is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation of about 90 minutes, in person in Longwood or Clermont or by secure video. We review your symptoms, health history, medications, sleep and stressors, and screen for related conditions such as anxiety, ADHD and bipolar disorder. You leave with a clear explanation and a treatment plan. Our goal is to find the root cause of your depressive symptoms.

Did you know? Thyroid problems, low vitamin B12 or vitamin D, anemia, low or non optimal hormones and sleep apnea can cause or worsen depression symptoms. That's why we look at your whole health picture and may recommend lab work before or alongside treatment.

Depression treatment options

Treatment is individualized and may include antidepressant medication, follow-up visits (usually 20 to 30 minutes) to track progress and side effects, and referrals for therapy. Medication and therapy together often work better than either one alone.

Did you know? Most antidepressants take 4 to 6 weeks to reach their full effect, and early side effects often fade within the first couple of days to a few weeks. Some individuals need more than one medication trial to find the right fit, so it's worth sticking with the plan. If past medications haven't worked well, Gene Sight genetic testing may help guide the next choice.

Depression care by telehealth

Depression evaluations and follow-up visits are available by secure video for patients located in Florida at the time of the visit. When low energy makes it hard to get out the door, care from home can make it easier to start and to keep going. If an in-person visit is preferred, you can see us in Longwood or Clermont.
